TROUBLESHOOTING COMMON PROBLEMS
IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE SITE AND CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION IN THIS FAQ, SEND A MESSAGE TO webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com DETAILING THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM.
Q: Why doesn't the invite I received work?
More than likely, your invite doesn't work because the member who originally sent it cancelled it for some reason. If you're still interested in joining, go to http://machatterbox.marketamerica.com, and click the "Join" link. Once on the registration page, click the "Get Verification Code" link and fill out and submit the registration form.
Q: Why does the site log me out every time I go to a new page?
Most likely, your browser is not accepting cookies from http://machatterbox.marketamerica.com. Enable your browser to accept cookies and you should be all good. For additional instructions, go to http://www.google.com/cookies.html. Once you have altered your browser settings, clear the cache (temporary internet files), reload http://machatterbox.marketamerica.com, and login again. If the problem continues, you might have a problem with your firewall settings, network permissions or other local internet access controls. These are not problems that we can fix. Contact your network administrator for additional assistance.
Q: Why isn't my profile picture showing up?
The main reason folks have problems uploading photos:

They didn't enter one or more of the required fields in the VITALS section. Look at the rest of the page - see all those asterisks? All of those boxes have to be filled out. Once that's done, find the image file again, then click SUBMIT. 9 times out of 10 that'll fix you right up.

The image file isn't on their computer. If your file is on flickr.com or some other remote host, you'll have to download it to your computer in order to upload it to MA Chatterbox.

The image file isn't compatible. Convert your file to a .jpg file.

The image file is too large. Resize it and try again.

If you still have a problem, log out of the site, clear your browser's cache, log back in and try again. And if you STILL have a problem, send an email to webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com.
Q: Why can't I see any blogs?
In order to view blogs and other features on MA Chatterbox, you will need to have JavaScript enabled on your browser. Follow this link for instructions - https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654.
Q: Why isn't the room I bought showing up?
This problem is usually resolved by either - a) logging out of the site, clearing your browser's cache, and logging back in; or b) installing the latest version of Flash on your machine (it's free, and you can find a download site by Googling 'adobe flash download'). If both of these fixes fail, send an email to webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com and let us know what kind of computer, operating system, and browser version you're using, and we'll figure it out.
Q: Why aren't the items I purchased in the Shop showing up in my room?
Most likely because you haven't yet placed them in your room (See - Q: HOW DO I PUT VIRTUAL PRODUCTS INTO MY ROOM? for a complete explanation of the process). If you get through that and still can't get it working, send a message to webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com detailing the problem.
Q: Why am I not receiving MADollar for every blog entry I create, or for every photo and media file I import or upload?
You can post as many blog entries or import as many photos and media files as you want, but you can only collect MADollars for one (1) blog entry per day, fifty (50) photo uploads/imports per month, and fifty (50) media uploads/imports per month.

Q: How do I invite friends to MA Chatterbox?
Just click the NEIGHBOR MANAGEMENT profile navigatin button near the top of your Profile Page to access the invitation module. You can invite friends by entering a valid email address in the blank field and clicking the INVITE button. You can also send invites to any of your Yahoo! or Gmail contacts by clicking the GET CONTACTS button for the service you wish to access. Enter your username and password for the service, then select the contacts you wish to invite and click the INVITE button. Every successful invitation earns you 1500 MADollar!
Q: How do I change my thumbnail photo?
Click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the ABOUT ME box. In the VITALS tab, click the BROWSE button to search your computer for the photo file you want and click the SUBMIT button. A confirmation notice in the upper right hand corner of the page will tell you if your update was successful. If it isn't successful, that notification will tell you why.
Q: How do I move to a different Segment?
Click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the ABOUT ME box, and look under the VITALS tab. See the field labeled SEGMENT? The one that defaults to THE EXCHANGE? That's a drop down menu that lets you select a different Segment. Submit the change and you'll be on your new segment.

And no, you can't live on more than one Segment.
Q: How do I change my username?
Just click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the ABOUT ME box, then change your name in the username field on the VITALS page. Make sure all required fields are completed (those marked with an orange asterisk), then click SUBMIT. Your username and your MA Chatterbox URL will reflect the change immediately.
Q: How do I buy a room?
Click the MANAGE ROOMS profile navigation button near the top of your profile page to open your Room Management tools. On this page, below the default room image, you will see a BUY A ROOM button, which will take you to the room store. You will only be able to purchase a room if you have sufficient funds. You will be asked to confirm your purchase, and once you confirm, a confirmation notification will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen indicating which room you purchased.
Q: Can I sell a room back that I purchased on ma Chatterbox?
Unfortunately, once you have purchased a room on ma Chatterbox, you cannot sell it back in order to recoup funds.
Q: How do I delete unwanted comments?
Click the VIEW ALL tab in the Comments module on the left column of your profile page. Your Comments management page will open. Scroll down to the comment you want to remove and click the red X next to it.
Q: How do I find out who ranked my room?
Click the VIEW ALL tab in the Commments module on the left column of your profile page to open your Comments management page. Scroll down below the comments to see everyone that ranked your room, their rank, and any message they’ve left for you.
Q: How do I preview changes I've made to my profile, room, SavvyBoards or Top 10, so I can see what they look like when folks visit my page?
Click the "My MA Chatterbox Url:" in your INBOX to load a live view of your page in a new window. Close that window and you'll return to edit mode.
Q: How do I invite other members to be my neighbor?
When you visit someone's room, you'll see a button that says ADD NEIGHBOR. Click it to invite that member to become your neighbor. Neighbors have a quick and permanent link to each other's rooms, and are able to more efficiently communicate with each other. And you get 100 MADollar when your ADD NEIGHBOR request is accepted!

If you click the NEIGHBORS profile navigation button, you'll see a list of incoming and outgoing neighbor requests.
Q: How do I add to or change my Top 10 Neighbors?
Click the NEIGHBORS profile navigation button to open your Neighbors management page. You can remove neighbors from your Top 10 by clicking the red X beneath their profile picture. To add new neighbors to your Top 10, click the ADD TO TOP 10 button. A popup with all available neighbors will open, and you can drag and drop the new neighbor profile picture you wish to add to the Top 10 area of your Neighbors page. Your changes will be saved automatically. Your Top 10 Neighbors will appear in the carousel display on your profile page in Live Mode.
Q: How do I prevent another member from sending comments, messages, or otherwise communicating with me on MA Chatterbox?
If someone's being a pest and ignores your polite request to cease and desist all contact, you've got the IGNORE button option. Go to that member's page and click the IGNORE button in their About Me box, and they will be unable to communicate with you in any way. If you ignore someone, they will lose 300 MADollar. You'll see a list of members you've ignored at the bottom of the NEIGHBORS management page.
Q: I sent someone a neighbor request and they denied it and I lost MADollar. What's up with that?
In order to discourage folks from just spamming one another with neighbor requests to try and rack up MADollar, denied ADD NEIGHBOR requests result in MADollar deductions. If you don’t know someone, you should send them a message to confirm that they want to be your neighbor. If they don’t, you can save yourself some MADollar. If you decide that you’d rather just send a neighbor request to everyone that joins the Segment, expect to get a few denials.
Q: How do I find out who IGNORED me?
You don’t. That’s the whole point of the IGNORE tool. Someone doesn’t want to have any contact with you, for whatever reason. Sorry, but that’s just the breaks. But if you’re being a good MA Chatterbox member, chances are other members aren’t just going to start ignoring you for no reason.
Q: What is that "Groups" section on the NEIGHBORS page all about?
You can organize your neighbors into "Groups" to streamline communication. Want to talk just to a couple of folks, to your co-workers, to your MA Chatterbox friends, or the folks you've known for decades? Just create a "Group" for them. View and organize those "Group" by clicking the NEIGHBORS button.
Q: How do I upload Photos?
For detailed HELP, click the PHOTOS profile navigation button, then click the help icon on the PHOTOS page. You've got two options:
Upload photos directly from your computer
Import photos from flickr.com (requires flickr.com account)

Whichever option you choose, you'll begin from the same place: click the PHOTOS profile navigation button to open your PHOTOS management page. The PHOTOS management page offers several ways to import, upload, organize and share your photos.

Do you want to import/upload photos to your General Photos folder, or to an Album?

General Photos
Click the ADD FLICKR PHOTOS button to import images from photos you've uploaded to your flickr.com account. Enter your flickr username and password. Drag and drop the photos you want from the paginated popup box to the General Photos field. You don't even have to save or submit or anything once you drop it on the page, it's there. Click the edit icon under each image to edit the title or text, and click the red X to remove a photo.
or click ADD PHOTO to upload photos from your computer. You have the option of entering a name and description for each file you upload. Browse your computer for the photo file you want, then click ADD.

Import/Upload to an Album
Click ADD ALBUM (or click the edit icon to edit an existing album). Enter a NAME and DESCRIPTION of the Album (these fields are required - if you leave 'em blank, your Album won't save). The thumbnail is optional. Click ADD, and you'll be able to add photos from flickr.com or your computer, following the directions above.

Once you imported or uploaded photos to the site, they'll be available for use in other applications and features, such as the Chatterboards.
Q: How do I upload or link to Media files (Music and Video)?
For complete instructions, click the MEDIA profile navigation button to open the MEDIA management page, then click the help icon.
Q: How many media files can I upload to my ma Chatterbox profile?
All ma Chatterbox users are restricted to 10 media file uploads at this time. To add additional media files, consider deleting existing media files that you have previously uploaded.
Q: How do I get virtual products?
Go SHOPPING! For more instructions, click the SHOP button in the top navigation bar, then click the help icon on the SHOP page. Just click the SHOP button in the top navigation bar, then search for the stuff you want. The more you do on the site, the more you earn, the more stuff you can get.
Q: How do I put virtual products into my room?
For detailed Help instructions, just click the MANAGE ROOM profile navigation button, then click the help icon on the Room Management page. To add items to your room, select the room object (TV, stereo, shelf, table, cabinet, etc.) you want to associate a purchased item with. A popup window with all items currently associated with that room object will appear, and all inventory available for placement will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click the green plus sign to add an item to the room object. When neighbors visit your room, they can click on hotspots to see the stuff you're into.
Q: How do I remove virtual products from my room?
For detailed Help instructions, just click the MANAGE ROOM profile navigation button, then click the help icon on the Room Management page. To remove items from a room object, select the room object (TV, stereo, shelf, table, cabinet, etc.) you want to remove items from. A popup window with all items currently associated with that room object will appear. Select the REMOVE ITEMS tab from the menu at the bottom of the screen, then click the red x next to the item you want to remove.
Q: How do I change which room displays, or make more than one room available for display?
For detailed Help instructions, just click the MANAGE ROOM profile navigation button, then click the help icon on the Room Management page. Select the room you want to display from the dropdown menu below the room. If you want to make this room your default, select the SET AS DEFAULT button. If you want to make the room visible when others visit your page, select the MAKE THIS ROOM VISIBLE option box. De-select this box to hide the room from visitors.

Q: How do I make a Chatterboard?
Chatterboards are a blank canvas you can use to create video and photo collages, to display your favorite stuff, to rep your neighbors, to play games, and even to create a video player. To get started, just click EDIT tab for Chatterboards on your room page. Then, decide what you want to do: ADD NEIGHBORS, ADD PHOTOS, ADD VIDEO, ADD ITEMS, ADD TEXT, or ADD WEB PARTS. Just drag and drop the stuff you want onto the board, then move it around until you've got it where you want it. Title the board and hit SAVE, then you're all good. You can even associate the Chatterboards with objects in your room (just click MANAGE ROOMS, then choose a board for each object - only 1 per object). For more detailed instructions, click the help icon on the SAVVYBOARD management page.
Q: How do WEB PARTS work?
WEB PARTS allow you to embed integrated applications in your Chatterboards. From games and other "widgets" to search engines, we're putting the best of the Web right at your fingertips. When you add or edit a Chatterboard, just select ADD WEB PARTS, then choose the application you want from the dropdown CATEGORY menu. Simply drag and drop the game, search tool, or other integration to your Chatterboard, then save the changes. It's that simple.
Q: How does the SEARCH tool in the top navigation bar work?
You can perform several different kinds of search to find different members. The search options tabs work together to enable you to build a precise search and find exactly what you are looking for (the following information is also available if you click the question mark icon next to the word SEARCH on the main page):

Keyword tab
Enter any keyword or phrase to find exact matches on any member page.

Targets tab
Use the targets tab if you want to target a specific value for a specific type of information (i.e. City=New York or Relationship Status=Single). A series of dropdown menus will lead you through the three-step process of adding targets to your search.

View search
Find out what everyone on MA Chatterbox is listening to, where they went to school, or even their political views by using the View tab to control what information is returned in the search results.

Load search
Save frequently performed searches for quick loading later. A search is comprised of the settings on the Keyword, Targets, and View tabs. You will have the option to save a search after you click the Search button. All saved searches appear under the Load tab. To load and execute a saved search, simply click the saved search you want, click the Search button, and you'll receive real-time results.
Q: Anything else I should know about the SEARCH function?
Our SEARCH engine uses profile data to make matches, so the more you share about yourself, your interests and whatnot, the better results you'll get in terms of matching search results.

Q: What are MADollars?
MADollars are the currency of MA Chatterbox and they are used to reward our members for their participation. You can earn these by doing almost anything on the site from simply logging-in to writing editorials and articles for our content site.
Q: How do I get started?
Click the JOIN button and sign up for free! After you register, you'll receive 5000 MADollars to get you started off. The more MADollars you earn, the more items you can get for your room.
Q: How can I cancel my account?
Send an email from the email account you registered with to webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com, subject "Cancel". Please include your username in the body of the message.
Q: How can I contact MA Chatterbox?
You can always contact us by using the MESSAGE ADMIN feature. Send email directly to webmasterchatbox@marketamerica.com.
Q: How do I report abuse?
If you want to report something to our administrators, use the MESSAGE ADMIN button next to your BACK TO MY ROOM button. Make sure to put "Abuse Report" in the subject line. We will attend to the situation as soon as possible.
